To the Ambassador of Poland, Ms. Barbara Tuge-EreciŸska.

The cultural & sexual political organization dunst will demonstrate in front of the Embassy of Poland in Copenhagen, Denmark
On Saturday June 11th 14:00 – 16:00, the day of the banned equality parade in Warsaw.

The demonstration will show our solidarity with gay, lesbian, bi- and transsexual people in Poland, who have been denied to celebrate their pride and freedom, as homosexuals do in other major capitals in Europe.

"Organising a gay parade on that day is a joke" mayor of Warsaw, Lech Kaczynski, has told the Polish news agency PAP.’
He says so because the parade would collide with the unveiling of a monument for Gen Stefan Rowecki, a leader of Poland's anti-Nazi underground army during World War II.

Had it not been for the seriousness of the discrimination, this could seem like a joke to us. As sexual minorities were among the victims of the Nazism, we find it ironic that Kaczynski chooses the day that should be honouring a person, who fought Nazism, to carry on the oppression of sexual minorities.
Lech Kaczynski states that he is "for tolerance, but against propagating gay orientation".

But as we see it the banning of the parade is a strong act of homophobia and intolerance. Therefore it worries us to learn that Kaczynski is considered a leading candidate at the presidential election this October. We fear that he will carry on his intolerance and homophobia and set back the struggle of the sexual minorities in Poland for the right to live freely and not having to hide in fear and shame.

All over Europe people share our concern and worries, and we ask for the ambassador to share this concern and do what is possible to make sure not only that the steps made in Poland towards liberation of sexual minorities will not be overruled, but also that progress is still made in the struggle for minorities to live their lives according to their feelings and desires with no more boundaries than the rest of the population.
